| Kung fu action-adventure epic "The Forbidden Kingdom" is wrapping up production in China and is being brought to Malaysian screens by Tayangan Unggul come April 2007. The movie, described by some as "a Western take on the Chinese 'Journey To The West' legend", is noted as being the first ever film in which stars both Jackie Chan and Jet Li, the two most successful Asian kung fu stars in recent memory. According to sources from Tayangan Unggul, the movie, shot over 17 weeks in various locations across China, has completed principal photography and is heading for special effects production in South Korea. It is also tentatively slated for an 18 April release in Malaysian cinemas, simultaneous with its US opening. In "The Forbidden Kingdom", American teenager Jason, who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kung fu classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawnshop. It happens to be the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King. With the lost relic in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported back to ancient China. There, he meets the drunken kung fu master, Lu Yan; an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk; and a vengeance-bent kung fu beauty, Golden Sparrow, all who lead him on his quest to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey King - imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord for five hundred years. Along the way, while attempting to outmaneuver scores of Jade Warriors, Cult Killers and the deadly White Hair Demoness known as Ni Chang, Jason learns about honor, loyalty and friendship as well as the true meaning of kung fu. Director Rob Minkoff ("Stuart Little", "Lion King") helms the project, with Woo-Ping Yuen ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "The Matrix", "Hero") entrusted with creating the fight sequences, including the anticipated few scenes that take place between the characters played by Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
